Agrupamento de Escolas José Régio - Portalegre
is a group of schools which consists of kindergartens, elementary schools and
middleschools (until 9º grade). We have a
total of 85 teachers and 950 students in 9 institutions. The school is situated
in Alentejo Region, a disadvantaged agricultural area
in central part of the country, near the spanish border. Our schools integrate
special education
students in regular classes.
Six elementary schools are situated in rural areas .
We develop specific national programs allowing interchange and communication between students or rural and city areas.
Our school also has experience in running a Competence
Centre that recognizes competences for persons wishing to complete
further levels of Education. Students with educational
problems are supported and integrated in special courses that allow them to complete the compulsory education. The school also
integrates students from different ethnic and religious ideologies backgrounds (European, Brazilians and a Gipsy community).
The project is intended to be developed by the children
of primary and kindergarden schools, in close cooperation with the science department and with IPMA, our local institute for the
atmosfere.
Our team in Jose Regio School and in our Cloister of
schools is committed to providing a global education for all our pupils. We
place a high value on our own cultural heritage, and in
environment.
We believe it is essential that we all co-operate as
European citizens and share good practice for the benefit of our children who
are growing up in an ever changing world. We are eager to
provide our children, as well as our staff, with a wide ranging view of the languages and cultures of the world.
Many of these children have never been outside their
country of birth and we feel it is vital that throughout European collaboration children learn about the lives, languages and cultures
of others and learn to respect the differences they find. We believe that a multicultural approach to learning will enrich the
lives of these children and give them some of the tools they need for a future
of social, religious and cultural tolerance. We aim to
involve our school, (students, teachers and staff) our community, our region
and our country educative system departments in the
process of building a European identity based in the collaborative work of children, schools and communities.
Our school places a high value to environment
protection and consider shaping ecological attitudes among our students and
teachers as essential for our safe and healthy
existence in Europe’s natural
environment in the next decades.
