On the first of January and the last of March,
The winter is really, really harsh.
Prvega prosinca in zadnjega sušca je zima najhujša.

If the 2nd of January is green, the Easter in snow will be seen.

If on 22nd of January the sun burns,
Plenty of wine into the barrel runs.

If February is too warm
In April the furnace will glow.
Če je februarja pretoplo, bomo v aprilu za pečjo.

Heat in January,
Wet in February.
V prosincu toplota, v svečanu mokrota.

This is how we played with proverbs:
Instructions:
1.
Cut out the
frames with proverbs.
2.
For each of
the Slovene proverb find his matching English pair. Help with a dictionary
(book or online).
3.
Each member
of the group chooses a pair of proverbs and writes them into the English
notebook. Write the title - Pregovori, proverbs. After that, illustrate your
proverb.
4.
Take a look
at each illustration in your group – can you identify the proverb?
BOARD GAME:
Which
proverb is missing?
Put the
frames with proverbs on the desk. Determine pupil A, who hides a certain
proverb. Determine pupil B, who guesses the missing proverb.
When pupil
B finds out which proverb is missing, determine two new pupils (A and B) for
the next round of this game.
BOARD GAME: Continue the proverb…
Determine pupil A, who secretly picks up one of the
proverbs and reads out loud its first half (the beginning). Determine the queue
for guessing (which member of the group has the first opportunity to take a
guess, who will be the second, etc.).
Make your
own board game with proverbs. Write the instructions on the back side of this
handout.
