Have you worn your "March"? We have !!!
But what is "March"?
"March" or "Marchy" is a very old custom, which is thought to be rooted back in ancient Greece. It is spread throughout the Balkan states. So, we're certain that our friends in Bulgaria have already worn their "Martenitsa", equivalent for our own "March"!!!
It is a bracelet, consisted of white and red thread, swivelled, which is used to be worn from 1st to 31st of March. According to folk tradition, "March" is worn mainly from children in order to protect their faces from the bright spring sun when they come out of their houses to play in the yards.
That's why, in order to avoid ourselves "getting caught by the sun", we swivelled our threads and made our "Marches"! We'll take them off the last day of the month and leave them on tree branches, so the birds can take them and use them to build their nests.
